Built in 1823, this Ocean County, New Jersey Inn was the former homestead of John D. Thompson, Esquire, a prominent statesman and area businessman. Thompson held the position of Postmaster and also served as Sheriff of Burlington County. In 1828, Thompson purchased the Tuckerton Stage Line,
which delivered mail from Tuckerton to Philadelphia. It is believed he
operated the stage line and a tavern from the building at the same
time. The historic structure located on the west side of the Inn served
as the village post office.
In 1899, the property was conveyed to George and Helen Mott and remained in the Mott family for 97 years until it was converted to a bed and breakfast in 1996. It is currently owned by Lorenzo and Catherine Lauro who purchased the Inn in 2004.
This Victorian bed and breakfast has been renovated to include all modern amenities while
maintaining the integrity of the beautiful original architectural
features such as a mahogany three-story staircase, ten foot ceilings,
and ornate plaster moldings.
